Tattoo and Body Piercing Aftercare Instructions

Saniderm Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

  • Clean the area and dry thoroughly; Ensure the skin is clear of any soap or residue (Moisturizers, lotions, and ointments are not necessary and will interfere with adhesion)
  • The artist will cut a second piece of Saniderm for you to apply the second day that will fit your new tattoo properly
  • Peel off the paper backing to expose the adhesive side. You will place this side down on skin.
  • Gently apply bandage using light pressure, push from the center of the tattoo out to avoid any air bubbles. For best results ensure that the skin is in a neutral position.
  • The first piece of Saniderm should stay on from 8-24 hours, depending on how much the area weeps. It is normal for blood and fluids to build under the bandage.
  • A second bandage should be worn for 3 to 6 days. Do not wear any piece longer than 7 days.
  • To remove Saniderm, pull the bandage back over itself rather than pulling straight up.

Make sure that you remember that your tattoo is an open wound.

We recommend that you stay away from places that your tattoo can be contaminated with germs or debris. The gym, swimming pools, and tanning beds are all places that put you at risk for infections.

Your tattoo may be slightly swollen, mildly painful, and a little red, however, if you feel that there is something wrong or are experiencing a fever, puss, bumps... there is no replacement for a Doctor’s opinion.

Tattoo healing can vary from person to person, typically 2-4 weeks.

The bandage or wrap the artist puts on should stay on 30 minutes to 1-hour max, (please do not rewrap with a dressing during your healing process).

When you remove your bandage, wash your hands and then rinse your tattoo gently with warm water and antibacterial soap.

Blot dry with a clean paper towel.

You will need to wash your tattoo at least once a day.

When you get out of the shower, make sure you dry it immediately, also try to limit over-exposing to moisture.

Wait 1 hour after showering before you apply a small amount of lotion to your tattoo.

We recommend H2Ocean tattoo aftercare although you may also use a moisturizer such as Aquaphor, Lubriderm, Cetaphil, or Vaseline Intensive Care.

Make sure your lotion is color and fragrance-free.

You may need to apply lotion three to four times a day.

(Try not to over-saturate, a little goes a long way.)

Piercing Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on receiving your new piercing!

There are some things you will need to do to ensure that you heal properly.

Please know that anytime you may have a question you may contact us.

A normal piercing can be slightly irritated, red, or tender for the first week.

Some swelling and tenderness are common and can be relieved by taking an anti-inflammatory. A normal piercing will also excrete a yellow/white substance, which is called "plasma"; this is a healthy sign of your body trying to heal. Before rotating or moving jewelry, make sure that you clean this off. If pulled through a new piercing, it may irritate new tissue.

Most importantly, please make sure you wash your hands before touching your piercing. Good hygiene is crucial to healing well.

You may have to change your habits to ensure you keep your piercing protected; this may include the gym, swimming pools, and showering instead of bathing. It is important you wait for your piercing to heal fully before changing your jewelry. We would encourage you to come back in when healed, then we can direct you to the best jewelry available.

For body piercings, we recommend using H2Ocean aftercare products, although you may use a product such as a sea salt soak or saline solution.

You will need to clean it up to three times a day for the first week, and once or twice a day after that.

Do not use products such as alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, bactine, or witch-hazel. Please try to avoid tight clothing or contact withhairspray, perfumes, makeup, phones, etc. After cleaning, it is essential that you tighten the ball or backs of your jewelry.

For oral piercings we also recommend you use H2Ocean aftercare; the second best thing is to use a sea salt rinse. The ratio being ¼ teaspoon of fine grain non-iodized sea salt to 1 cup of clean, warm water. If your solution is too strong, it can cause irritation. Please make a new solution each time. Making too large of a batch may be tempting, but it is safer to mix when ready to use to avoid contamination. Rinse your piercing at least once to twice daily for five to ten minutes. There are things you can do to help swelling and discomfort during the first few days. Rest - try not to talk or move jewelry unless necessary. Ice- suck on chipped or shaved ice.

Elevation- prop your head up above your heart. We use longer jewelry for the initial piercing to accommodate for any swelling. It is recommended that you come back in two weeks to replace it with something smaller.

With all piercings a plasma discharge is normal, but if it starts to change color, gets very sensitive, hot or you get a rash around the area it is important that you see a doctor.
